Never-Fail Pie Crust

So many people offer pie crust recipes, but none have ever come close (imho) to my Granny’s recipe. 🥰 It’s pretty easy, and easy to modify. I’ll do the original recipe, and then modifications for gluten-free/clean diets.

Ingredients:
3 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 cup shortening (my mom uses Crisco)
1 egg
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
water
extra flour for rolling

Mix the first 3 ingredients with a pastry blender or fork until well-blended.

Mix the egg with the vinegar and 5 tbsp of cool water, and add to above.

Roll out on a pastry mat or similar, generously floured. (My mom always covered her wooden rolling pin with old pantyhose, knotting both ends, to keep it from sticking to the rolling pin.)

Makes 4 total single pie crusts, or 2×2 double crusts. May be frozen!

For a cleaner diet, I mix
half Sorghum or Tigernut Flour and
half Arrowroot Starch to make 3 cups
and I use sustainably-harvested palm shortening.
This works beautifully too!

Enjoy!
