Why “Make Level Paths?”

There are several places in the Bible where it talks about making one’s way level, smooth, or plain. For example…

“The path of the righteous is level; you, the Upright One, make the way of the righteous smooth.” (Isaiah 26:7)

“Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain.” (Isaiah 40:4)

“Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.” (Psalm 143:10)

“I instruct you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths.” (Proverbs 4:11)

Oftentimes it is difficult to go through life! And in the midst of all the things that happen to us, we also make it more difficult on ourselves sometimes. We run from responsibility and hard things (procrastination, anyone?), we do things we know are not good for us, and we neglect things that are good for us to do. All of us do this. It’s just life. (No judgment!!)

But God has told us about good things to do, which — if we follow them — will make our lives easier. It’s really hard to see this when we’re younger. As I get older, I marvel more and more at how following God in one way, even when I didn’t want to, has made my life easier now. And of course that makes me wonder whether following Him in other ways would make my life even better. 🙃 (Hint: of course it would!)

So some of these things that I share with you through the blog are going to be hard. They’ll be difficult or strange to follow. But everything I share with you will be something that has helped me — or would have helped me, had I known about it earlier.

Because I want YOU to be able to follow level paths too.
